Bouncing Tilt and Trim on Way Down

I'm having a tilt/trim problem I hear is common. When my engine is way up on "tilt," and then comes down, it lowers with a bunch of jumps, bumps and stutters. My fluid seems full, and runs out the cap if removed. I'm told I should keep refilling and raising and lowering the engine to purge air. Does that sound right?

One youtube I saw says that a loose nut on the tilt tube at the transom can be the problem. I can't see how I'd even get a wrench in that space to check, and a socket won't work because the tube would be in the way.

I'd sure appreciate some advice from those of you who have been through something similar. The bouncing is quite alarming, and can't be good for the transom to have that much weight slamming its way down. When it reaches the trim function, of course, I'm fine.

Thanks--

Normally that is caused by the motor binding on the tilt tube or something similar. Grease the tilt rod, and make sure nothing else is binding.

The bouncing is only after the motor is raised up on the tilt function, well beyond the trim function zone at the bottom. And it only occurs when lowering the engine from that high tilt position.

Sounds like you have a bunch of air and or water the system. I had both when I replaced the trim motor a couple of years back.

Trim must be raised to add fluid to the system.
