Re: bout fuel conssuming

sounds excessive to me, at idle, it should burn around 8 or 9 gallons per hour at wot. with my 85 hp rude towing a boat 8 miles took about an hour and burned 6 gallons at displacement speed

Here is a link to section 4 page 8 of your manual:

http://boatinfo.no/lib/evinrude/manuals/1973-1991johnsonevinrude.html#/92

It goes over a couple of things on the right hand page about half way down that you can try to correct your problem. Unfortunately you don't have adjustable jet screws on the outside of your carb. that would make it much easier to troubleshoot.

Re: bout fuel conssuming

so im reading thought the service manual and says that if theres a tiny pin hole diaphragm such hole will let pass fuel into the crank case and wet foul the spark plugs and also i have that on my spark plugs, so that tiny pin hole can be the cause of my excessive fuel conssuption
and excessive sludge?

I'm no expert here but I have a question.
Whats the name of that needle valve that is connected to the float?
If the float is not "set" right (90 deg) wont excessive fuel get dumped into the carb throat?

AND if you have extra fuel gettin dumped (extra oil), wont that get gunky (technical term I heard on TV) in the exhaust ports?
And didn't Antonio say he rebuilt the carb?

I'm just sayin..

Clearly the engine is running way richer than it should. About the only 2 other things I can think of is to check and see if the choke plate is sticking partially closed. If it is hit the linkage with some wd-40 or the like to loosen it up. If it is still sticking you might find a spring in the linkage itself that is stretched out and needs to be tightened or replaced. The other thing you might try is rebuilding it again. Sometimes even the pro's have to do it more than once to get just right. If you take that route try to find OEM parts for it if you can.
