17' bayliner capri bow light is not working. Took two screws out that held it to the hull. Will not lift more than 1/2". Front is red and green lens cover and top and back is chrome plastic or metal. Don't want to break anything but how do you get to the bulb? Does the chrome cover slide off the back or pull it straight up?

Thanks, I will look at it tonight but my first impression was that it would not go backwards. something was holding it down from the center hole.

Re: bow light replacement ?

Hey all...I've got the same problem but could not see drdross's replies. I've got a 20' 1996 bayliner capri. I'm pretty sure the bow light bulb blew out, but can't get to it. I took out the screws and tried lifting it. got about 1/2" and could see the wires and some type of adhesive. the wires didn't move too much which tells me that pulling harder to break the adhesive might just rip the wires out. Also noticed that the under plate of the whole housing would not allow access to the bulbs (theres only a little hole for the wires to pass through a closed housing). It didnt look like the silver plastic or colored plastic pieces that make up the upper side of the light will come off. tried prying but stopped when it looked like it was going to break.

Any ideas at how to change the bulb? The fuses are good and I'm pretty sure the wiring is good, so I'm left at assuming its the bulb, but can't get at it to check.

Thanks,
-EC

Re: bow light replacement ?

i have a b-liner...i just changed mine. (89 capri)

remove the two screws that are holding the light to the hull.......lift light assembly...remove the whole assembly by lifting straight up.

under the base plate there is 2 screws that hold the thing togeather....after the two screws are out it falls apart....there is another screw that holds the light bulb in place. un do that just a tad and the broken bulb will fall out.
...the local marine store should have the bulbs...(there special ones.)

the reason you cannot lift it more than 1/2 inch is the wires are holding it down.....they are probably stuck somewhere. just give them a little tug. if that doesnt work, go into your anchor well and look for the obstruction of the wires.

it does not slide, latch, click or anything.....the wires are the problem.

cheers
