does it matter GREATLY if i place my motor up front and center, or can i place it off the side of the boat?

its a motorguide 30 with foot pedal (seems like 10yrs old) and i wont be able to reach the pedal unless i cut a hole in the deck.

the boat is a 15' arkansas traveller skijack, with no windshield. it has a flat nosed bow deck that extends 4ft into the boat, but is not sturdy enough to sit on.

The closer to the front center you mount it, the less the motor will have to work. You can put it anywhere you want, but I would not move back more than 2' from the front which is the best pivot point.

Didn't you ever operate a row boat? Pulling on one oar will make the boat go in circles. Mounting a troller that way will result in the same effect depending on how far from the bow you mount it. A troller needs to PUSH or PULL the boat meaning it needs to be mounted at the front or rear. It does not need to be at the centerline of the boat but it should be as close to it as possible.

off center the boat will track at an angle, and is harder to control. i tried one, mounted on the gunnel at the front seat of a little tinny. ended up trolling side ways.
