I'm looking for the correct shaft length for a bow mounted foot controlled trolling motor on my tracker 1542. I've read a lot of ways to measure and find out which length to get, but what i'm really looking for is someone who has the same model and which length they have used. I think im leading towards a 36" shaft, but might get a 45" to be safe? i'm not sure, thank you for your input.

Don't forget, if you get a little wave action you don't want the prop popping out of the water. For one, it's irritating.....

Take the long one. 9 inches of excess isn't all that much if that's how you wind up. Per Mr. Musky's comment, if you get in rough water and need that motor, you will appreciate the extra length. Most motors have a height clamp so that you can set the height to what you need. All the extra height does is to raise the head and wiring/cabling to it and having BTDT is not a problem at all. Actually helps counter balance the motor when retrieving from the down position.
