Bow seat back rest removal?

I know they come off somehow, but I am not sure and can't exactly get my head up behind my radio to see. But I know there is a roughly 6" hole drilled behind them to access that compartment.

Anyone know how to pop these off? I am running 2 new speakers to the bow of my boat, 2 factory ones in the rear just doesn't cut it for my tastes.

Wish I knew. kinda have the boat all wrapped up for the winter..I hope to do a new sound system in my 2010 GT205 this spring.
how far up in the bow are you going to go?
I am thinking about putting a couple speakers under the console's.

I am going to put them right above the front cup holders in the bow. I'd like to also throw a set up on my wakeboard tower, but that would involve adding an amplifier and goes beyond my audio skills with ohms and such.

My boat is in storage as well in our garage at camp, but just trying to plan a head and know what has to be bought.

The speakers that came with the boat are complete crap, blew one out the first day I had it on the water. Cheap Chinese garbage.

the whole radio system pretty much blows. many car audio shops will work on boats if your not comfortable with it.
I am thinking of a radio if this one does not have rca outputs on it.
that is a hard area to get to for sure. I am at a loss as to the removal process.

Edit: gonna stop by my dealer and see if they have one on the show room still and maybe they will know how to pull these apart.

BTW, dont loose that center rear seat cushion..185.00

Under the bow backrests that storage space is also open to the inside of the hull. Enough to get a hand up there and about it. If your going to install speakers above the bow cupholders you need to cut a hole to fit the speakers. Just fish the wiring thru the hull using a fish tape.

$6 from Harbor Freight or check Lowes/home Depot

I got a chance today to stop by the dealer and they still have a 2010 gt205 on the sales floor. I think it can be done be will take some real effort.
the side panels next to the driver seat are installed in similar way as a car door panel using those ribbed push pins that like to break when removed :( the side panles also had no large holes behind them...you can stick your arm up there and feel around. there are just holes for the pins them self's.
I am sure they can be popped off then put some larger holes behind the seat backs so you could feed a wire along. I would hate it if those pins broke though.
the gt205 has no openings in the bow storage areas at all maybe the 18.5 does but this one sure dont.

Yea, I think I might just do what was mentioned above. I'll drill out the holes and fish the wire along the passenger side and remove the radio itself. There had to be some sort of access hole because I have the Roswell Wakeboard tower factory installed. I don't have access to my boat till April since its in storage in our camp garage. I'll probably post something up like a "how-to" for anyone else who wants to tackle this type of job.

Hey Threemile, our Glastrons came with a crappy deck and speakers, I was think of installing an amp to add some more sound but I realized it would take too much time and money, so I changed the Jensen head unit which the boat came with to a Kenwood marine unit and also changed the chinese crappy speakers to Kenwood 6.5 100 watts marine speakers. I can now run full throttle and hear the music.
All I need were those two changes, however, adding two more speakers to the front would be sweet, let me know how you end up doing it.

Re: Bow seat back rest removal?

Our winter boat show is in a couple weeks, I know my dealer will be there and I will ask them what can be done about it. I'm pretty sure a 6" hole saw drilled in reverse is all that would be needed. I'm planning on boosting my speakers with an amp, and installing another battery. Not sure when I'll be able to get all this done, trying to save pennies for my boat lift which I feel is more of a priority. I'll let you know tho.

I installed a set of JL 6.5 speakers beside each console seat and it sounds great. Used a holesaw and removed the deck to run the wires to it and connect it.

Did you get those back rests off yet? I just got the shrink wrap off this past weekend.
I picked up a pair of alpine SPS-M600 speakers but have not installed them yet.
