Just looking for some help on the possibility of being able to add more storage to my 1975 larson shark. In the open bow there is a seat that has no storage compartment under it. I was wondering if i would be able to cut one in without any strength issues

Re: Bow storage

You shouldn't have a big problem with strength, but being that close to the bow, and most likely the reason the manufacturer did not do it, is not very deep, I am not sure what type of hull you have but they tend to cut up pretty sharp the closer you get to the bow and midships , that spot is pretty well right at center bow. post a pic of the front and side at that spot so we can see what ya got under it

The one pic shows the front of the seat looking out the front it is about 6.5 inches tall. The seat beside this area has a 5 inch deep storage area. It is a trihull boat.

Re: Bow storage

you might get a little storage out of there, after cutting the hole reinforce the bottom and put a finish strip around it so you dont cut your digits on the unfinished edges, like a car door edge seal, don't know the technical term lol.

Re: Bow storage

Up in the bow area of any boat the sides might colapse in if you hit any kind of a wave without continuous side to side support to act like a frame. With that in mind, you could cut in a storage area but I would be sure to glass it all in to retain the integrity of the framing.
