i bought this used bow troller and it does work , it's the foot pedel type that turns the motor, i tryed it yesterday to get used to it and for the life of me i couldn't get it to go stright, it almost seems like it won't pull the boat.

it's a motorguide 41lb., now when i made my trolling deck it has a slight taper going down slightly to the front (not level) you think that could be the problem?

does it have to be totally level front to front and side to side ,that being said i guess the prop won't be at the right angle either thus not pulling the boat .

am i on the right track ?

Is it not pulling the boat straight or not pulling it at all?

That trolling motor should pull that boat. My 55# pulls my whaler without a problem. Although the unit should be perpendicular, 40# of thrush should work.

Is your unit a variable speed? Is the prop loose? Hows the battery charge?

The angle of the deck is not a major issue nor is the angle of the shaft. If the prop is in the water it should pull the boat. Do you perhaps have a 12/24 motor and the switch is set for 24v operation? Do you have a good deep cycle battery. Car batteries will not hold up on a trolling motor. Just because you charged the battery does not mean it can "HOLD" a charge. Turn the unit on (in the water) and measure the battery voltage or have the battery load tested at any auto store.
