Braces (teeth) Think doc has them too tight

My just turned teenager has had braces on for a half a year now. They are so tight they hurt all the time and her teeth have been overlapping for at least 3 weeks now. They overlap by about 3/32 inch (all front upper teeth). Orthodontist office says its normal and will straighten out, but I had braces and mine never overlapped and only hurt when they were put on and just a day or so after tightening. Anyone with experience with this.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

I would get a second opinion.....I had braces for about 3 or 4 years and not once did they overlap.....They hurt for a couple of days at max when tightened.

I'm not sure what you mean by "overlap" but mine never hurt for more than a day or two when they were adjusted .. never THAT bad though.

My sister's on the other hand, seemed to hurt her a lot more than mine ever hurt me.

By overlap I mean that the brace has pulled the teeth together so tight that tooth went in front of the tooth right by it some. By about little less than an eighth of an inch so far. There was no other place for the front teeth to go it was so tight. Think we are getting a second opinion on this. Turns out there is another orthodontist in town that I didn't know about.

Jeff

I have braces right now. They only hurt the very first time they were put on and for like three days after going in for tightening. No overlapping either.

Thanks for the replies guys. Last night I gave them a closer look and for the first time it looks like they are coming back a bit from overlapping. Still overlap some, but not as much.

Jeff

I had braces too. And surgery to uncover eye adult teeth that never moved from top of mouth to gumline. They pulled the darn things into place then yanked two teeth to make space for them.

Kind of like moving a tree across your yard by using a come-a-long. Ouch.

Ask the dr about his plans for the teeth and what is expected of this condition. Don't be afraid to press this guy for answers, and exact answers. Remember he is working for YOU and not vice versa, so he is accountable for what he is doing. If he doesn't know exactly what is going on with your daughters mouth, it may be time to find another doc.
