OK, from the old days I thought it would be simple to purchase a couple of spring steel clamps in different sizes to hold my oars in my tin boat so they were out of the way.
I just hit every hardware store in town including those big box stores and I can only find them in 1.5" max diameter. My oars are just under 1.5" and just under 1.75" and are tapered. What i am looking at are spring steel clamps but they may not be strong enough.
I checked a couple of boating sites but I don't know what to call them and I am not finding them.
What would you call the type of clamps that are open and spring to hold and release the oars? I used some in the last boat I had to secure the oars and my gaff in the boat and I know they have to sell them in a boating store I just don't know what to call them.
No boat stores around here and I don't want to drive over 100 miles to get some either.

They're called oar locks.

They are listed on iboats.

lots of brackets like that are sold through West, Cabelas and Boaters World for large boats to secure gear; it will be stainless and expensive.

Wrong, I just searched that term, even though I was aware of what an oar lock is. They are clamp on devices that clamp onto the oar to provide a pivot point while rowing.
Not at all what I want. I want something that will hold the oars in place for storage!

Yep, that's them. Pricey but that's them. Thanks.
Hardware stores used to sell them, called them spring steel and they were not stainless for cheap.
If only I could find them at a hardware store.
I may have to bit the bullet and buy what you show.
I had them in stainless in my 23' cuddy and they never let go of the oar or gaff even in very rough waters in the Pacific off SF.

I'd use those rubber ones.

Anything I put on my boat I ask myself,,, will this hurt me or my family if we slip and fall? The metal ones I posted are an accident waiting to happen.

Normally I would agree with you but this is only a small aluminum boat and I won't be standing in it or in rough water.
I did go with the plastic style, a little safer anyway.

I'd use those rubber ones.

Yes I saw them and they are similar but not what I ordered. The mount is different and will work better in my application.
