Does anyone know or reccomend a place to get a brand new GM replacement 350 long block marine engine? Im talking brand new in the crate 0 hours. I have found several ads touting 'new' long blocks only to find out later they are remanifactured to new spec engines. To some people im sure there is no difference, but Im looking for 100% new everything, replacement engine just like you would get if you bought a new boat off the floor.

Ayuh,.... So which is it ya want,..?? A new Long block motor, or a new Bobtail motor,..??

A new 350 Long block motor can be bought from yer local GM Dealer,...

A new Bobtail motor will have to come from Mercruiser....

If We're talkin' Mercruiser that is....

What I meant was im interested in a long block, but I want everything in the long block to be new. Nothing re-used or reman'd. Thats where I ran into several ads stating 'new' engines but in fact were reman'd blocks, heads, cranks etc. So while they were new in the fact that they had never been run, they were still a reman engine.

I tried local GM dealers but was told without a part number they really couldnt do much with marine stuff and I would likely have to go to a marine shop. In doing that I was quoted 4800 through Mercruiser, but Im thinking there has to be a way to get one without going through Merc since its just a base engine used all over the place.

yes, that does look more like what Im after. Many of the remans I looked at were close to that in price, so if I can get a 100% new engine for the roughly same money that seems to me like the way to go. Ive been down the mass reman road before on an automotive application, and it seems like its hit or miss on quality since its all mix and match core stuff. Before I did that i would have one built local and know exactly what i have in it even if some of it is used. But im not sure I could do that for the price of one of those new engines.

You can buy a brand new GM 350/260hp from places like Jegs/ Summit or some GM dealers ( not all will make the order ). $1,500-1,700. Add in brass freeze plugs and add a marine camshaft, and you have a brand new marine long block

The problem I have with all these $1500 to $1800 remans is they are expendable. If they fail they give you another piece of junk. They are all bored over .060 and the cranks are turned .030 that way they don't have to measuer anything and they can just slam them out the door. Even though the max bore recommended by any marine manufacturer is only .030. They are just junk.

The crate car engine is great if you want to put in the right cam and proper core plugs. If it's a truck cam in the engine, it should be fine for marine as well. Just check the specs. Truck means bigger than a 1/2 ton street truck.

I agree, been down the reman route in an auto application years ago and nothing but trouble. I know some people get along fine but I dont feel like taking chances again.

no, i know on that page they are new.

My post was in response to your post about the reman 1500-1800 engines being expendible. My point being I have seen some reman engines in the 23-2700 range as well, and for that money if you can buy a brand new engine why wouldnt you? I know if everything is done right then a good reman should be fine, but you never know what you get since its all mix and match cores. You might get the 1 or 2 rods that have 10 million miles on them and ready to fail no matter what.
