This is why you use bronze, not brass fittings on a boat.

This fitting was used in fresh water service only

Should be standard reading for all boaters...bronze is best. Luckily you caught it during your inspection...another thing many/most don't do.

Why do some people get SOO LUCKY ? By treating a boat in water that can and will SINK. Like a car on land ??

I was coaching a new boat owner / sailor last season.-----Made up a list of things to do / inspect while boat built in 1978 is lifted out for the season.----Next season I plan to spring the " person overboard " drill.---Also planning to do the " water higher than my shoes " on the cabin sole drill.-----Anchoring drill.----Manual starting of the small diesel.----If you go offshore you need to understand emergency management.----Through hull fittings need to be inspected / looked at.
