I have a '92 Searay 240BR with a 7.4 Bravo One. 240 hours.I have loud clicking, almost sounds like a soelenoid chatter down in the area of the bell housing. This noise is at idle in nuetral or drive. It does not leave after warm-up. My service tech replaced the gimbal bearing but noise is still there. He pulled the outdrive back off and started the engine. The noise was still audible. Now he says we'll have to pull the engine to get to the bell housing because the noise is probably in the coupler. Help, I am not experienced with marine mechanics but not totally stupid. Do I need a new Tech?

Pull the exhaust elbows and inspect the flappers at the top of the y pipes. The coating on these vavles get worn and make noise ,causing many people chase their tails .

Most likely the exaust flappers, some do sound really metallic. there located in the "Y" pipe, just below the rubber coupler hose.

Exactly where are they in the Y? Are they serviceable?
