Luckily I heard this part drop (see pic attached) and retrieved it from just below the drive shaft at the transom. I haven't found a detailed diagram of this speedo adapter, so I don't know if it is a complete part, or if there are other pieces that need to be included. Without this part installed, seawater seeps into the bilge through a hole/fitting in the inner transom plate.

  • Does this part just friction-fit into the hole in the inner transom plate (or maybe it is a fitting that aligns with a hole in the inner transom plate) without any solid connection like threads or adhesive? I did push it in by hand, but it seemed it could fall out easily.
  • Does the spring need something on the end of it that acts like a stopper when no pressure is sent from the outdrive?
  • Can I attach the speedo tube (that runs to the helm) to the white plastic stub?
  • I did push the fitting in and attach the tube, which stopped the water from seeping in while moored in the harbor. But it seems quite fragile.
  • Seems like I''m missing something because the black o-ring serves no purpose with my above descriptions.
Appreciate any assistance with this

Thanks Alldodge. Original - Engine SN 0K167129 (Mercruiser MCM 7.4L on 1997 Bayliner). Had a new Bravo II sterndrive and new transom hardware installed in 2017 by a shop - Sterndrive Part No. 5331600LP (not sure of its serial #). I'm visiting the boat today and will confirm steering is intact and fish for small parts under the engine.
