I have a 2000 bravo3 merc with alot of crossion around the foot plate..cavation plate and the lower housing...the boat had 50 hours when I bought it and was kept in lake water the whole time...I heard that there is a recall??? on this outdrive or the paint??? is there any to fix this without replacing the housing?? I know the old fashion way of sanding cleaning and repainting...Thanks :)

Hello
is the boat in saltwater now?
do you sand your anodes before launching? if your anodes get a whitesh/gray scale on them they become just another weight to drag around.make sure you are using the proper anodes. the ones for salt and the ones for fresh water are different using the wrong ones will cause corrosion. if you have the mercathode then have the system checked. clean and repaint the lower case. DO NOT use any type of carbide abrasive or wire brush to clean the case. use only sand or garnet paper or the black pads from 3-m or something non-metallic.
merc has some excellent repainting guides.Good luck and keep posting

msettle, Check the post called "merc cruiser bravo 3" that I posted. I was looking for any and all info prior to buying one. (used) The last post to me was from BRG and he included a link that discusses corrosion. It is about on point for your question. Good info. Good luck. Granpa

You should contact a certified mercruiser dealer to get the correct zincs for that drive.there have been a lot of problems with corrosion on that drive.Mercruiser supposedly makes special zincs for that drive.Boat US has a lot of info on your problem. There may also be some sort of update kit to help correct the problem.make sure to get to a mercruiser dealer.Charlie
