Dumb question alert. – newbie to Mercruisers.

All new Bravo 3 installation and I just need to install the sterndrive.

However, before installing the sterndrive the manual states “With the gear lube monitor cap removed; to purge air from the system, push in on the dribble valve stem until the new gear lube appears.”

Well how long does this take and is there a secret?

I know the tubes are small in diameter and it may take a while but I have pressed so long on the valve stem I have a permanent imprint on my finger … ha ha.

The lube monitor is full and the gear lube is past the quick-connect connection.

One thing I have not done is trim the hose and re-routed, so may have a low spot so wondered if that may be a cause? I am basically looking at the route of the monitor hose from the gear lube to the gimbal housing before cutting the hose.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you

I wouldn't worry about doing that, you will be fine. When drive is used it will heat up and lube will expand, it will self purge in a few hours of running. Check and top off as needed. Once it drops a couple times it won't do it again unless there is a leak

Some install the drive and start filling until it comes out vent. Install vent plug and then keep filling until it is pushed into the lube bottle.

I fill the drive, install both plugs then lay drive on it's side, remove vent plug and dribble lube into vent hole until full, then install drive.

Only thing either of these do is just lessons the time until completely full. Any method is good and will not damage drive
