Hi everybody, so I disassembled the bravo three upper gear casing to inspect everything I’m having a problem putting it back together. When I Tighten the retaining nut The shaft gets real stiff to turn like it’s binding. Now there’s an upper and lower shim that goes with ithe gear assembly and there’s supposed to be to reference numbers example 91/94 engraved into the drive . I Do not know where each and goes but for some reason my outdrive doesn’t have those numbers so I’m not sure if the shims are in the right place tried to move them from up to down but makes no difference. Thanks for any help you can provide!

What all was taken apart?
Drive shaft including pinion gear off?
Shift shaft and clutch assembly?
Anything replaced?

Also what year or serial number is the drive

All taken apart except pinion

You need manual 28
The mentioning of numbers 91/94 must mean you have manual 11.

With no numbers on the housing, did you happen to track which shims came out of which side?

Are you aligning the notches in the drive housing and the shift clutch assembly before trying to install the pinion?

I am using manual 28, yes I did align the two gears with the notches one + And one -. I did not track the shims when we moved. Is the slightly thicker shim always in the bottom do you know. Thanks

Unable to say, have not done enough of them to make a guess, just put back what was in.

In 2000 and on the Bravo's changed the size of needle bearings and because of it the shims changed from .091-.094 to .061 to .064

Guess I'm not going to be able to help without putting hands on. Something didn't go back in the same way it came out.
