Can someone tell me if the water pick up hose in this kit fixes the Bravoitis condition I’ve read about or if that is something you buy separately?

Thanks

Yes, it is the newer design, having the plastic end that goes through the transom. Make sure to put some soap on the hose before installing it so it can be easily adjusted in order to line up with the hole in the transom assembly.

IIRC, the plastic piece needs to be very square with the hole, else the bolts for the barbed fitting won't want to go in. Also, check the existing hose for Bravoitis and make any needed fixes to the transom assembly before installing.

I would use the exhaust tube rather than the exhaust bellows (which is useless IMO )

Thanks for the reply, can you expand on this part please. I must not fully understand what the bravoitis condition is. Fortunately I’m not having any of the symptoms just thought I’d make the repair before I do

Here is a pretty severe case of Bravoitis . . .

This is looking at the transom assembly from inside the engine compartment. The angle/barb fitting has been removed to expose the end of the inlet hose. As you can see the corrosion around the hose has crushed the hose and the insert sleeve to a point where hardly any water can flow past it.

Should you discover that you have a white powdery substance around the end of the old hose when you remove it. You will want to check the transom assembly for corrosion where the hose plugs into it, clean up the corrosion and treat the exposed surfaces with a zinc chromate (or zinc phosphate) based paint.

The new hose does not prevent recurrence of the Bravoitis, it just makes the hose end more resilient.

Thanks, much appreciated. I have the drive off now in preparation of pulling the motor soon. From what I can see not much corrosion but will do a thorough check thanks again!
