Hello guy's
I have a 1997 Bravo II drive that you have to push pretty hard on the remote shift handle to make it shift.
So far I have replaced the remote shift control,lower shift cable {after lubing with light oil } , cleaned and greased shift linkage in upper drive and it still shifts pretty hard. Other wise it works fine. Starting to think about the cone clutch ? Bushing in upper drive cap ?
Thanks for any help.

I would remove the drive and grab the link bar with needle nose pliers. While turning the drive shaft just a little see if you can change gears easy. If you can, your drive should be OK. If its hard to change, then your going to need to have a look inside the drive.

Has the drive lube been changed?

AllDodge;
Yes the drive lube has been changed every season, and it comes out looking good ,no water ,not dirty at all.
I'll try what you said and see what happens.
Thanks

Might want to pull the rear cover on the upper drive to inspect the detent ball canister and the recess in the rear cover that it fits into. Common problem for your symptom.

Have you disconnect the remote shift cable and see if it's any nicer?
