Bravo III 496 Impeller Kit

Good afternoon.

This Spring when I picked up my boat and started going through it I wanted to change the impeller. Well to my surprise the water pump was different than I expected. I couldn't figure out how to get the impeller out without completely disassempling the water pump.

This is the kit;



and not this kit;



Anyone have experience with the 496 on how to rebuild them or is there a link I can look at? All I can find for Bravo impeller replacement information is on the latter kit.

What is the Mercruiser serial number of your engine?

I'm at the office (working hard thinking about the boat) so I don't have it with me... Mercruiser 5.0mpi 2005 with a Bravo III if that helps.

The 1st pic is the newer style which you probabley have. Either one, they both come apart the same way. Yeah, you have to take them apart

You will need to remove the pump from the engine to replace the impeller. Here is a file on rebuilding the pump. You don't have to pull the front pulley and shaft off just to replace the impeller.

Thanks Don S - exactly what I was looking for. So I will probably have to use a set of needle-nose pliers to pull the impeller out? It's in there pretty good.

Turn it in the direction it would be rotating while pulling with the needle nose.....little dish soap won't hurt either.....
...at least that's what this rookie does....

When I looked for the impeller kit, they called it a Bravo 496 impeller kit....I dunno?
