I hear that if you hit a prop on a bravo III goot enough you will do damage to the outdrive. Is this true? Does the Bravo III not have a hub that you can spin like an Alpha? Has anyone out there messed up their Bravo III by hitting the prop hard enough?

Actually, if you hit a prop on any outdrive good enough, you will do damage to the drive. . . . Hitting the prop(s) on a dual prop outdrive is generally more memorable, because it will likely cost more in propeller repair/replacement. That may be the essence of what you are hearing.

As was said, smack any drive on a solid surface like a rock and you can do damage no matter what kind of prop hubs you're running. You're LESS likely to do drive damage on a Mercruiser if you only hit the prop AND you're running a delrin hub (like Merc's Flo-torq).....however you can get solid hub props for all their drives, so the type of drive would probably be less important than the type of prop hub.....in theory.

If I'm understanding correctly, what you're really wanting to know is if a BIII is more prone to impact damage than other drives. I don't even have an uneducated guess here; as far as I know they don't test for that, so all you're going to get is anecdotal evidence. "Stories" if you will....kindof like whose brand of oil is better. This could get good. :faint2:

I'll give you Mr. Murphy's answer to the above question. The more mechanically complicated something is the more it is going to cost to fix it when it breaks...

Since B-III's are usually only used on larger boats who have no business fooling around in shallow waters, it shouldn't be a serious concern. Follow the channel markers. ;)
