Bravo III repitch?

Hey guys,

I have a 27' Doral Monticello with 7.4 L Bravo III Drive and 22 pitch quicksilver Duo props.

I purchased the boat 1 year ago and love it, however, I have a difficult time getting on plane with more than about 3-4 people and gear. We enjoy taking several people out for a cruise but also take week long trips which require a lot of extra heavy gear.

Therefore, I am interested in having my props repitched, as I understand, stainless props can be changed up to 1". therefore, I could drop from a 22 to a 20 as long as my peak RPM continues to fall within the manufacturers recommended range.

My question is, has anyone out there repitched props and what kind of luck have they had, but more importantly, should I repitch both props the same or should only one be changed? Would I be better off having the blades cupped?

Thanks,
Tim

They can be changed to 21p, and yes do both. I'm uncertain of the effect of cupping opposed spinning props. My gut tells me it would be a mistake, at least with the leading prop. Perhaps it could be done to the trailing prop.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will have both of the props repitched at 21. Any suggestions on a repair/repitching company?

Thanks,
Tim

There are a lot of repair companies that say they can do it but will totally mess up your propeller. I bought a set of Duoprop Volvos off of Ebay that looked odd so I took them down to Wilmington Propeller in California to get their opinion. Each prop was totally off pitch and in one case, almost unrepairable. I ended up having to go through a big deal with Paypal to get my money refunded.

Not sure how Wilmington Propeller works for out of area propellers but I would try contacting them.

They do excellent work.

Thanks again for the replies guys. I will look into other options before going with the repitch. Ofcourse with todays gas prices us boaters are taking a real beating. Sometimes every cent saved on needless items allows more time on the water.

Thanks again,
Tim
