Hi There
I am seeking some assistance with my 06 bravo one/350 mag mpi engine coupler. I had the aluminum coupler strip the splines a few years ago. At the time i didn't know of the common failure so i replaced it with another aluminum coupler. I did not check the engine alignment at that time either. So this year i decided to pro actively upgrade to the 861523A11 steel coupler and check the engine alignment with the alignment bar. I did a gimbal, bellows, shift cable etc this time. I was surprised when i had to lower the front mounts about an inch to even get the alignment bar installed. This was even after centering the gimbal bearing. Well i have it aligned so i can get the bar in the coupler every 90 degrees of engine rotation. But at half of one revolution the bar is much tighter. So i decided to just crank the engine with the starter and look at the coupler. I noticed it is out of round so i pulled the engine back out tonight. I placed a screwdriver up against the inner spline and when it's rotated it will rub against the screwdriver confirming it is in fact out of round. I am planning on putting a dial indicator on it to check the runout. My question is what is the out of round tolerance on a new coupler?
Thanks for your time
Brian
