Is it possible to plug the OIL feed line at the outdrive to eliminate the OIL reservoir. Mine leaked at the transom under the water intake and caused drive pinion bearing failure. Is deserve system necessary?

While its not 100% necessary, its the best thing to make sure the drive stays full. When filling a Bravo the drive is not completely full because the vent plug is below the top of the drive. The only way to get the drive full is giving it time to burp during use, or laying the drive on its side and finish filling from the vent plug.

Filling from the vent still does not fill 100%

Replacing the transom fitting while hard with the motor in place, it can be done, but is mush easier with motor removed

It would be best to fix the oil line rather than be fixing the internals of the outdrive.

In terms of filling the outdrive with gear oil, I have learned the hard way to lay the drive on its side. It fills more completely with less mess than the method prescribed in the manual/tech bulletins.
