will the impeller correct it’s self when the motor is started if put in wrong?

Yes, and can also damage it self if placed in reverse. There is only so much room when vanes are compressed and if its doubling over in that area, things can tear

If its lube well, chances are less

It is worth taking the time to get it set correctly, and some dish soap will be a good lubricant for when it first starts up.

When you take apart the pump take a pic of how the vanes are oriented...before pulling out the old impeller....
