My 89 Formula 292 SR1 drives must have had new decals applied by the prior owner but there are no serial numbers stamped onto the upper sides in the "Serial No." fields.

Is there any other way to identify the numbers on these drives???

Thanks for any help.

Do you have Mercruiser re-man's. I have a re-man Bravo III and it doesn't have a serial number. I emailed Mercruiser about it and they said all their re-mans ship without serial numbers.

I didn't know the serial number of our 2000 Bravo III until I removed the old, worn side decals to replace them. The serial number was stamped into the side of the drive under the starboard side decal! It was on;ly visible when I shined a light at in from a certain angle. I copied it down before I put on the new decals. This was the original drive and not a re-man. Hy

Well, I don't know. The fellow I bought the boat from was an honest guy and made no mention of any drive swaps or previous problems. The drives do have the oil passage and remote reserviors.

Thanks for the reply.

I wondered if the no. was stamped into the casting beneath the decal. Both drives are perfect cosmetically. I hate to peel the decals back due to the cost of replacements but I may have to anyway.

Thanks for your comment.

What do you need the serial numbers for?

On my 1991 Formula/Mercruiser 454 . . . all of the original serial numbers (engine, transom, outdrive) were stamped on a label attached to the air intake cover. Not sure if they were doing that in 1989 though.

It is possible that you have replacement drives, based on the type of boat and the age.

Now that you mention it I think I've got the tags too.

Thanks for the reminder.
