OK. Just finished putting my 200 looper back together. Trying to figure out the best way to break this thing in.
It's got Wiseco's in it and the piston to wall is set to OMC specs. I have double oil in it (through the VRO and in the tank).

Thanks
Vic

The break-in will largely depend on what the actual clearances were. If you don't know what the finished bore size was, treat it like it's on the tight side. On mine I let the motor idle for a couple of hours to let the cylinders go thru the open / close cycle of the t-stats a few times. (cylinders warm up & cool down) For the idle only time you don't need to add extra oil, 50:1 is fine.

If you think it was finished on the tight side I'd let it idle for 4 hours. It doesn't have to be done all at once, I usually let it idle for 1/2 hour at a time. Once you're done with the idle only time you can follow the instructions in the manual.

Thanks.
This is the toughest thing I ever had to do. I really want to see what the ol' girl can do especially after all the port work I did.

If you'll share what year it is, what boat you have and what you did I can probably tell you what to expect.

It's a 1996 200 Looper. The boat is 1996 Wellcraft walkaround fishing boat.
I cleaned up the intake and exhaust ports, nothing to crazy mostly just the casting imperfections. I also did my best at chamfering the the edge of the port in each cylinder.

Before the motor broke it would go around 40 at 5500.

You have to be careful with the top edge of the intake ports. Too much angle can be a "not-so-good" thing. There's no reason to think that you won't get the same performance unless you went too far on the intake ports. That boat doesn't respond well to small increases in torque. I'd play with the set up to gain rpm.

Hopefully you found and corrected the cause of the rebuild so it won't happen again. Remember, a damaged piston is not a cause, it's a result. You need to find the cause.

It looked like the pin which locates the ring walked out and took a chunk of the piston out with it. Couldn't find anything else wrong with it. Carbs looked clean. Timing was on. I did find alot of sand packed in the cooling passages on that cylinder when I was cleaning the block.
