Hey all:

Just bought a used 101 lb thrust 36 volt Minn Kota Riptide. Rated for a 46 amp draw at full power.

Will this breaker work in this application? http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/LIT3/813050BP/N0227.oap?ck=Search_circuit+breaker_-1_1703&keyword=circuit+breaker. This would be placed in-line on the positive lead between the + battery and the motor.

It says 12 volts, but I've seen in other places where folks appear to use these types breakers for this purpose. I'm fairly up on electrical work, but I can't wrap my brain around how a 36v 46amp draw would differ from a 12v 46amp draw...

Thanks for your help!

Re: Breaker for 36V trolling motor

That's not the best choice for a breaker for two reasons. 1) it is less than 10% above the maximum current draw for the motor. It would probably hold under most conditions however. 2) You will get a fair amount of discussion over automatic reset breakers which can reset any time (such as when you might be fiddling with the prop). The chance of that happening are very remote but you know about Murpheys Law. A manual reset breaker would be a good choice.

thanks for the input. Does the voltage not matter in this application?
