Ok. thanks for the responses. I have a 2004 Maxum 1800 with the mercruiser 3.0. We purchased 2 months ago. First time out we broke the large power steering bracket. I replaced it. Had to pull the power steering pulley, but I got it. Next we broke a starter bolt. I had the shop extract the bolt. We broke the starter bolt again. I extracted it and replaced the starter bolts and put a new starter in it. I also added the bracket (part 863212). We drove it this weekend and the starter was fine.
However, we broke the large power steering bracket again (65606T). We have had some vibration in the past so I replaced the plugs, distributor cap, and rotor. We ran non-ethanol this weekend and the boat ran really smooth, I thought, until I got home and noticed the same power steering bracket was broken. This is a large, thick, bracket. Why does it continue to break?
My question. Does a little vibration cause these brackets to break? Has anyone had this happen repeatedly? IS there a permanent fix? I am at my wits end here. These brackets are $115. I am taking both broken brackets to be welded tomorrow. Both being the first one that broke and the identical one that broke last weekend. Thanks for any advice or insight.
