Breaking in my motor

Hello everyone. I finished my rebuild and I am just wondering what steps to take for breakin it in. My motor is a 1977 johnson 25 hp. In my manual it says run for 20 hours at varied speeds. Is that all I need to do or is there anything else to look into? Also, should I keep the 50:1 oil ratio and is it fine to use synthetic oil.

Thanks in advance

Re: Breaking in my motor

During the break-in I'd run oil a little heavier. Probably around 32:1, it'll cost you a set of plugs but it won't ruin all of your hard work. I'd also break-in on dino oil, I believe synthetics are "too slippery" to properly seat rings.
