Just a few questions about breaking n a new engine. MarinePower 2010 5.7L, alpha 1. Vary RPMs for the first 10 hours? Change oil after 10 hours?
How long does it take during the break in period for the engine to reach peak hp?
Thanks Roman

It makes peak HP the second the last bolt was torqued when the motor went together.
As far as break in. If it's EFI and the computer logs RPMS. Follow what the manufactoer tells you.
If it doesn't log rpms... then just run it.
Make sure you check your oil every time you go out (you should anyways) to make sure your not making oil with water or gas.

I disagree with Jason. It won't make peak power until the rings are fully seated, and if the block was not bored&honed with a torque plate, it will never make as much power as it is capable of.

If this is a new motor in a new boat, do what the book tells you.

If this is a new or rebuilt motor that has never run before and it is a flat tappet cam, I would put a zinc additive in it and when you start it don't let it idle for the first twenty minutes. Keep the rpm's up to about 2000.

Agree with zbnutcase, peak horse power will come later, but you will not be able to tell a difference.
