What ever you do, DON'T have it loaded with American booze - your customs folks will think you're nuts.

Usually the trailer is of more concern than the boat. Just make sure that you have paperwork for the boat, title (if any), receipt etc. The trailer will have to be inspected before you can register it, Canadian Tire can do it for about $40. The boat will have to be registered with Canada Coast Gaurd but that is a simple formality and costs about $10. Best is to give Canada Customs a cvall and ask them so there will be no suprises.

Just went through it. normal pst + gst + 182.00$ to omts to get ownership transfered (trailer). Make sure its North American built or you will spend the day at customs trying to figure out duty rate . No duty on North American built(probably the only time nafta will work in your favor). They were helpful when I went to their office to get info, don't bother trying to call if you can get the #, I spent over an hour trying to get someone to talk to.

Jim ;)

I think it may depened on what province you are in.In Ontario you will have to pay.Keep your receipt for pst in a safe place ! When I bought my last 2 boats private,I went to the tax office to pay pst,and still got a letter from them requiring me to prove I paid or pay again You would think they would have a record of 1000$ plus payment on file. You should also get a seperate receipt for the trailer when you bring the boat over, makes things a whole lot easier.I've heard of people getting a receipt for less than they pay (I'm not admitting nothing!)to lower tax at the border. I think they may have book value's for trailers so you may be stuck paying tax on that rate anyway. If you don't already know you will also have to change boat registration # .Other than the trailer part its no more hassle than buying it Canada. I bought a 1994 searay da. Best price I could find in Canada for the same boat 28,000$ before tax.The one I bought in Michigan total with exchange, tax and mto fee,21500$ well worth the drive to get it.

good luck!
 Jim
