Is it metal flake gelcoat?

Can you feel the flakes sticking up thru the gelcoat?

Pix would be a great help

What you have is clear gelcoat, over flake, over colored gel....actually, originally in the mold, its the opposite, but that's a different discussion. There isn't that much clear between the surface and the flake edges. Gelcoat flake is usually large. To remove the hazing, you have to cut into that thin layer, but you can try it a little aat a time. You can try a cutting and buffing compound 1st, to remove only the surface haze..see how that goes. If you need to remove more, then wet sanding is the next option, with progressively higher grits up to 1500. Once the flake starts poking thru, like JB was asking, its build primer, and paint

Open a free photobucket account, upload your pics, then paste the img code in the text here...that's the way to go.

That works too, just bleed them over the sides to make it red where you see it...and maybe one day, orange will be the next red :D
