I'm inheriting a 1982 70hp Evinrude MOdel E70ELCNB.

It has very low hours, but has been sitting unused for more than 6 years. What steps should I take before trying to start the motor to avoid any damage. Any help greatly appreciated!!

Hi, Tide Man.

First, get a Service Manual for your 1982 engine.

Replace the water pump impeller, overhaul and clean the fuel pump and carburetors. Clean and gap, or replace, spark plugs.

While you have the plugs out, shoot about 1/2 to 1tsp. TC-W3 oil into each cylinder. Manually turn the engine through 3 to 5 revolutions.

Take care that all connections of battery-size cables are meticulously clean and tight.

Should be ready to fire up then.

Good luck. We are here if you have problems. :)

I would add replace the plugs,T-stats & change the gear oil to JBs list. His suggestion on getting the service manual is the most important.
