Broke 4.3 block how much for repairs?

Hey a buddy of mine has a boat 1990 with a cracked block. 4.3 mercruiser. Said it ran fine but was not winterized and water in block froze. The boat is 5 hours away in SC so I cant actualy test anything. The inside shape is in real good condition, and the only problem is the motor. He has already bought a new boat and its just sitting there and I know I could get it real cheap. Any ideas on repair cost? How about a whole new motor? that way it would be as trustworthy as a new boat. Any sugestions? He also said he may just trade me the boat for my bass tracker so he could fish some local ponds.

If your able to do the work your self, an engine and manifolds should be around 3K, double that if you plan on taking it to a marina. How is the lower unit??? <br /><br />Buying a "froze" boat is similar to buying beach property you haven't seen, be careful!
