Tried to post a picture but exceeds the 2.0mb limit.
Had the boat out for the first run of the season last weekend. Running with no hoods, wake tower or even seats...and the old trusty laser 2...she managed to put the faria speedo right round the 65mph increment and beyond off the scale. Obviously not doing the suggested 70+mph, but instead around 65mph gps...but it’s actually broken the speedo.
Its stuck in that position.
So yesterday, I removed the speedo and poked a screwdriver in a wee open slot on the back which either intentionally moved the needle or just by luck..back round to the normal resting point.
Tried a water test again...it only went to a max of 30mph. So it’s jiggered !
is it true that faria offer a lifetime warranty ? And the postage is the only cost ? Would like to know or hear of any success, if true and what if they can’t repair and only offer a newer replacement that doesn’t match the others ?
ive found a matching gauge on eBay across in the US...but the postage is actually more than the cost of the gauge.
Thanks.

Don't know about the warranty but if they do it should be on the website. I don't even have my speedo connected, and one of these days I'm going to remove it when I redesign my dash. I use a chart plotter to give me this info. Would suggest getting a GPS speedo if you don't have something else to read speed

I ripped out my speedo long time ago and filled the hole with a classic old old airglide compass for looks. In this day and age speedos are so yesterday.GPS /fishfinders pretty well all have speed in kph/mph/knots now Even my el cheapo garmin stryker 4 had that at least till it got stolen ,lol.

If this is a pitot tube speedo, could simply be stuck or debris in the pitot tube

Faria is low priced junk, Boat in my sig came stock with them. They're cheap to replace. Ever heard the term the " Faria rap" ? That term is used for a reason, and the rap can make it work.

All gauges are low priced junk. The 3-3/8" gauges are a bit ove $3 to make, the 2" gauges about $1. Doesnt matter who makes them (air core motors for most come from india)

The box it comes in costs almost as much as the gauge

If you are doing 70 you need a helmet not a speedometer Boyo. I haven't looked at mine since I got GPS as it's more accurate anyway, especially at slow trawling speeds.

Tried that other day. It’s not that it’s not getting a feed. Just that the needle was stuck round the clock.
Was hoping it was just something like that originally.

Haha. Wasn’t quite doing 70. Wish it was. That’s just what the speedo said. Would have been low or mid 60’s GPs.

I had a bad Faria tach 6-7 years ago, they replaced it for free, all I had to do was ship it in.

I wasn't the original owner and had tired to "fix" (butchered) the tech, but they still replace it.

do speedos even work on a boat, mine stops at 45mph and starts to drop in speed. I use my phone or tachometer.

Hey QBhoy , my speedo acts up sometimes too, I am going to use your explanation on anyone who notices, that I hit 65+ once and it stuck...so we may actually be going 65 right now

Never had a problem with Yamaha gauges or Smartcraft. Big bucks, but you get what you pay for.

My speedo isn’t too bad compared to the smart craft, to be fair...or it was until this happened. Read away off the clock at anything over 60gps, but further down at cruising speed it was pretty accurate.
I only want to replace it to keep things as they should be.
Literally just picked up a matching ex display model for $28...but $27 postage to here ! Oh well.

The actual moment it froze. Managed to downsize picture to get it uploaded. Was chuffed to bits and took a photo....then noticed it had simply stuck there after I slowed down. Raging, haha. Well trimmed up as you can see...in initial sea trail mode with no seats or hood on. Even the wake tower still in storage. Wish I could run this light all the time. Flying machine. Haha.
