Has anyone had any luck removing broken bolts? I recently purchased a motor with 3 bolts broken off. 1 is 1 of the 4 bolts attaching the gear casing to the exaust housing. The other 2 are in the powerhead.

I tried an easy out on the bolt for the gear case but had no luck. Should I bring the engine to a machine shop or should I run the motor as it is? It seems as though everything is working as it should.

Thanks in advance,

Greg Hodges

Re: broken bolts

If having a machine shop remove them is an option, that's the one I would use. I would NOT run the engine with the bolts missing.

c/6

Hooty

Re: broken bolts

Fivestar

Broken bolts should be TIG welded out - do a search for snapped bolt or broken bolt and se the method. A good TIG welder can do it cheap and with NO damage to aluminium.
