Hi everyone,

Last weekend, I was launching from the Berkeley Marina. I put the boat in reverse and had the wheel cut (unintentionally, of course) and backed it into the adjacent dock. I damaged the prop, no big deal. But, upon returning from an all day excursion on the SF Bay, I pulled the boat out and became sick over the damage.

I broke my cavitation plate. (See links to photos below)

Picture 1

Picture 2

So much has broken, I think welding it is out of the question.

As far as I see it, I have these options:

1.) Replace the entire lower case. I price a used one at $150, plus cost to swap gears out of broken case at $500 = $650.

2.) Add a full hydrofoil (whale tail style) which will act as a cav. plate.

I'm not sure option 2 will even work. Obviously, I would love to save the $$.

Any thoughts? This has made me really sick!!

BTW, it is a Mercruiser 1976 233HP 351 windsor with an "early" style outdrive.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Adam
