Broken Depth sounder

The factory depth sounder on my boat does not operate properly. It will be blank most of the time but will occasionally give a erroneous reading. It will indicate 150' when the lake has a max depth of 60'. It is a hummingbird model that is integrated into the dash.

How difficult is it to replace? Can it be fixed?

I have a barely used one if you need one. Could be the transducer is going bad or it's moving around while underway. I assume your referring to the round puck style dash type.

Forgot to add that there is a U shaped steel bracket in the back that holds it in place. It is a pressure bracket with a wing nut. Comes out in a snap.

Yes it is the round puck style. Where is the transducer?

Transducer should be on the transom usually to the right of the lower drive. It could also be a shoot through the hull which could be somewhere along the inside bottom of the boat. Follow the black lead from the depth gauge on the dash.

When you find the mouse bite in it, it can be spliced and taped and work OK for that application. BTW, if it's a shoot thru setup, you could be looking at a good depth finder, and fiberglass failure in the hull. If it's a go-fast hull pad failure can get pretty rough and dangerous.
