Hi Peoples,

I have a 85hp Blue Band Merc 1978 I think. The controller is the two handle model, one small lever for neutral warm up, and the large main one for in and out of gear and throttle.

The problem is where the main cable enters the control box, there is a brass tube that locks into a black plastic round grommet. The grommet has broken in 2, so when I place the control in forward and move the handle for power, the brass tube slides into the control box for about six inches before the actuall throtle starts to engage.

My question is, can I get a new spare plastic gromett to fit the cable, or do I have to replace the complete throttle cable. It looks to me as if the black gromett is pressed on somehow and wont be able to slide over the two ridges on the brass tube.

Any information would be greatful.

Regards

You will need to replace the cable, as the plastic retainer is part of it. Don't try to "Rig" it. Throttle is nothing to fool with! They have the cables for sale right here in iboats mega mall at the top of this page. Cable look like this?

You can find them at iboats. You will have to measure your old cable length and order same.
