broken piece near trim tab on Mercruser

I noticed that I chipped about a 4 inch piece out of the horizontal fin right by the trim tab on my alpha 1, it looks real bad. Is there any repair that I can have done or is my only option to purchase a new lower unit? I am very concerned, thanks for any advice.

Find a good welder they can repair that .I would take it off yourself and bring it to them that might save you some money A good welder can repair anything good luck call around tomorrow .

Usually shops that repair props also do repairs on skegs and cavitation plates (all of which are aluminium).

You did not mention how you broke that big a chunk off???<br /><br />Check your prop and drive shaft----if you hit somthing underwater, call your insurance agent.<br /><br />Let them inspect it before you do a bunch of work---many policies cover this type of accident.
