I hit a log in my inboard skitique yesterday and broke the rudder completely off. There's about half an inch of the shaft left sticking out of the bottom of the boat. Will I have to replace just the rudder or is there more like bushing and bearings and stuff I'll have to change to? Is it a hard job, or can I do it myself? Thanks in advance.
Russ

Re: broken rudder on inboard

Oh my! Logs are an inboarders worst nightmare... Hope ya did'nt hurt anything else..

EZ repair job, Russ... Just replace the rudder, but make sure the shaft diameter is the same... Probably 1", but double check that... Look on e-bay ;) ... Occasionally a rudder pops up on there..

You will need to replace the flax packing just like in the stuffing box for the propshaft...
