Hello: I'm looking at a Trophy 2052 with a MerCruiser 4.3L 220HP that has part of the skeg that has broken off. How important is this, and can or should it be replaced? Thanks very much for the help!

Re: Broken skeg?

The skeg is there to protect the prop. If it's too short now....fix it. Have it welded or buy a replacement(bolt-on) skeg.

You can run it with missing skeg(which I'm doing currently), but ANY strikes on hard objects will mess up your prop...which are much more expensive than bolting on a new skeg.

I broke the skeg on my Alpha 1. I had the marina repair it. It cost $300 and you can't tell it's been repaired. It looks great.
But yes, while it was broken the boat ran and steered just fine.
