Re: broken starter bolt

I guess it depends on the acess to the bolt.Get yourself a little mechanic and see if he can gain acess in a way to drill it out.Thats what I was always afraid of doing so I never attempt that one myself.Charlie

Re: broken starter bolt

is there room for a 90 degree drillhead motor to get to the bolt. you might buy one and try it. drill hole and use a good high quality ease out.

take the motor out
if you drill off center it will cost a lot more.
you may find a welder that will weld a nut to the stud if its about flush. never ever use an easy out. if your not trained how to use them most times it causes extra problems. I get people all the time bringing me stuff that they attempted and broke easy outs and taps in the holes. I charge 125 per hour to remove miss-drilled studs and broken things. its just part of doing business.
good luck and keep posting

You will never drill it out - this is a hardened bolt - easy out should be called - hard outs.

Is there any bolt sticking out - even a ½ inch ? If so you have a good chance. If flush, or recessed, pull engine.

Post answer.

another thought. the bolt threads into the block, it is the head that holds the starter in place. can you remove the other bolts and drop the starter out? this might expose the bolt enough to get a vise grip on it.
