I'm installing a bronze through hull fitting for a raw water washdown and I need 4 bronze screws. No one has any in my area. Is there another metal comapatible or does anyone know where I can buy 4 screws? Not a big purchase to go online.

Re: bronze screws

Unless you want bronze for show type purposes, either brass or stainless will do. Neither of which will corrode,,,,,especially stainless.

Re: bronze screws

Brass will not for sure since it is an alloy of bronze. I use stainless in my thru hull fittings and haven''t had any problem with electrolisis/corrosion. Of course my boat is only in the water for 6 months out of the year. Maybe Tashsdad, Don S, or Bondo can chime in and back up some more info for you.

If you trailer your boat and don't keep it in the slip all the time, I don't see why stainless wouldn't work for you. Just be sure to keep away from aluminum, steel, or zinc plated fasteners.

I prefer stainless since they are a bit stronger in tensil strength than that of brass.
