Brown line on boat

This is the first year I am keeping the boat in the water rather than trailering. The boat is kept in salt water (LI, NY). After a matter of a few days a brown/green slime started to appear just above the water line. I had to pull the boat out of the water for a repair and wanted to clean the hull. This stuff doesn't want to come off! Any suggestions on what to use to clean this up? I have tried power washing already.....

Go to your nearest RV delaer and get some Theford Black streak remover. I used it on my boat (fiberglass hull)to remove the "bathtub ring" left from setting in a lake for a week and it worked great, check a small area to make sure it doesn't mess up your hull but it didn't hurt the finish on mine and was easy to use...Good Luck

Welcome to life in the NY/NJ salt waterways! I don't even dock my boat, just trailer, and I've got the ring too! My pressure washer won't even touch it, 2400PSI. Needs to be scrubbed. Save your time and just do in when you pull her out in the fall. Those scotch-brite green pads work well with whatever cleaner you decide to use, but you'll gunk them up pretty quick so you'll need a bunch of them. They're cheap.

Liquid toilet bowl cleaner (Lime Away) has worked like a charm in my experience. Directions: wipe it on (rubber glove advised), let it work for a few minutes, and hose it off.

Tony, sounds like you are on the Patchogue river or near it.As matt said the Marykate on-off is the best for the brown ring around. There is also a product called fiberglass cleaner which comes in a jar.It is a blue gel and needs to be worked in with a sponge or scrubby pad.I have heard of people using CLR and lime away as well. The most important thing is after you get it cleaned you must wax or use a polishing sealant on the area in question and it will surely slow the growth down next time. This season I raised my bottom paint line on both of my boats and have solved the problem.Charlie
