Brown Water after Starting Boat on Muffs

Hi there.

I am relatively new to the world of boating - so bear with me - not sure if this is a silly question or not. I have Volvo 2005 3.0 GL SX-C

I started my boat yesterday on the muffs for the first time in 3/4 months. Initially for about the first 30 seconds of running the water discharged from the exhaust etc had a significant brown tinge - i.e the water looked dirty (light brown/rusty sort of colour). Over a period (less than a minute) it became perfectly clear. Just wondering if this is usual, or there is something I should be concerned about.

Thanks

Andrew

That's normal, it's just rust from the block and the manifolds. They are cast iron, and cast iron rusts in water.
