I have a Motor Guide Trolling motor, that I bought used no model # on it only a name Brute Motor Guide and serial #34000A1689. Dealer cannot tell me the thrust. When fishing I found just a little under powered. Seller said it was both 12 and 24 volt. It has a double pole toggle switch on side of foot control only work one way when I am using 12 volt, dead the other way. Three wires coming from Battery Red, Red with white stripe and a black wire. I only used 2 wires on 12 volt. Can anyone tell me if it is also a 24 volt?

Re: Brute Trolling Motor

If it has a 12/24 switch on the foot pedal it is indeed capable of operating on 12V (one battery) or 24V (two 12V batteries in series). MotorGuide has more wiring schemes than Carter has pills so I would suggest that if you want 24V operation, red wire connects to BAT 1 POS and the black wire connects to BAT 2 NEG. You need a jumper between BAT 2 POS and BAT 1 NEG. The red wire with white stripe will then connect to BAT 2 POS. The red wire therefore is 24V POS and the red with white stripe is 12V POS.

You should notice a big difference on 24V.
