I am planning on purchasing a bucket truck real soon.

There are two models which are front and rear loaders. I like the looks of the rear loaders, but I want what is practical. Does anyone have any preferences between the two?

I am just using common sense on the rear loader. Since all the tool/material compartments are on the rear of the truck, it would make sense that it would be closer to the bucket. If it was a front loader, it would seem that you would be walking from the back to the front of the truck alot.

Second is which is the best type of power for the lift? PTO, or the aux power unit that runs the hydraulics with battery backup?

Just don't want to be saying later after the purchase "I wish I knew that before I bought it"

Sorry I haven't been around much this summer, been over worked, under manned, and haven't had much time to enjoy my boat.

Outboard Jim, how far away from Imperial Pa are you? That is where I am headed this weekend to check out a truck. (if my job permits) SS

Re: Bucket truck help

Hi SS, for what it's worth I've been involved with traffic signal and street light naintenance and installation for over 30 years. None of our contractors use front bucket type trucks and they all use battery/hydraulic lift systems with remote drive engine starting controls in the bucket. Hope this helps. Enjoy the trip.

Re: Bucket truck help

Thanks SS, I was leaning towards the rear bucket anyway. Just didn't care for having it hang above the windshield

I found a 91 F-450 with 64K miles on it. Diesel/automatic, new tires. Plus it has just been freshly painted.

Now I got something to get over the overgrowth around some of the ponds around here! :D Never fished out of a bucket before  SS
