Bugger!..

Back in Jan I bought a 15ft fibreglass half cab. It was my second boat and I was pretty new to the whole scene having only owned a dinghy previously. The hull had been resprayed and I gambled on asking the owner to be straight with me and tell me if there was anything i should know.

He said it was all fine... He 'misled' me...

The hull has cracked twice and there are hairline lateral fractures all up it. The cross members have separated all along and my guess is that the internals are shot.

My dilemma is that I don't want to (and won't) respray it sell it on to someone else. I don't want some other poor bugger feeling as much of a **** as I have. It is patched and sitting in a yard at present at a very low price, but I am wondering if I can fix it myself.

Can someone tell me how hard it is to rip up the floor, replace whatever needs doing and re-attach the crossmembers to the hull? And what would be the cost of materials? A best guess is all I'm looking for.

The guy who did the patch on it was talking $2500.00 for him to do it. That aint gonna happen!

Can I do it myself?

Use the search icon above and enter "stringer replacement" or "wood rot" or something along those lines. All your answers will be there.

Looks like you'll be spending time in the Project Boats Forum.
It's good to know there is an honest person that won't cheat somebody else just for a few bucks.

Re: Bugger!..

Lots of guys who post here have done it themselves. Don't kid yourself though, it is a lot of work but not overly technical.

Others may give you a better guess on cost but I'm going to give a shot at $500.00.

Unfortunatly there are all to many sellers who paint the rosy picture to gullible buyers who wind up here.
